Uhuru means freedom in Kiswahili — the summit was given this name in 1961, marking Tanganyika's independence. Barafu, the last camp before the ascent, means ice. The border of this keepsake follows the kanga, the Tanzanian cloth that carries a proverb. Your official summit certificate is issued by your operator and Kilimanjaro National Park — this one is simply to mark what you did.
